Filming Blog: Part 1

Image
On November 28th, I began rehearsal for my music video at my friend's house. Over thanksgiving break I intended to film earlier in the week so that I could have time for possible make-up days. However, due to personal circumstances, production of my film had to be on hold until the weekend. As of right now, I plan to schedule another filming day between the 1st and 4th of December. Moreover, filming the music video on Saturday proved to be quite difficult with the time change. Since the day ends a lot faster, some scenes had poor lighting. This made the transition into the next scene uneven. I still proceeded to record majority of the couch scene but by the time I made it to the pool scene it was already pitch black outside. Thus rather than making it the official filming day, I will now adjust the time when production must start on the make-up day. Also, rehearsing some of the storyboard proved to be beneficial for my camera man since we can now blow through the intro with less t...

Planning Storyboard For My Music Video

Image
For my music video, the story will consist of a young boy coming home to sleep on the couch. as he sleeps, the boy dreams about a wacky adventure based off the last thing he saw. (The song So Much Fun plays throughout the entire video). First and Second Scene  In the opening scene of the music video, the camera tilts down from the sky to the house below. Our main character is walking from the driveway to the door of his home. between scenes 2 and 3, the camera will get a close-up shot of the MC opening the door and entering their home. Third Scene The MC sets his bookbag by the couch and turns on the TV. They will pick up the remote on the couch while sitting down. Fourth Scene A shot of the MC listening to the song " So Much Fun" on the TV is taken behind their back. It also shows the MC looking at their phone on Instagram. Fifth Scene A close-up shot of what the MC is looking at on their phone is shown. It appears to be a wanted poster of a dangerous criminal current...

Research blog: Music Video Convention

Image
In my music video, I chose to use an upbeat song that would both entertain the audience and urge them to groove out with the main character as the story progresses. In most cases, this is how music videos are set-up to appeal to the viewers attention. Costumes in Upbeat Music Videos usually contain a variety of clothing because most shots are set-up with multiple transitions throughout each scene. The events in the video can either be seen as a montage or change in setting. This usually signals a costume change during the video. Props include jewelry, vehicles, Food, drinks, lights, and so on The Appearance of actors in upbeat music videos are typically joyous, with quality outfits to show off. Body types are predominantly Slim or fit for dancing scenes. Overall, everyone is looking their absolute best such as hair, skin care, etc. The music almost always matches up with the camera movements and scenes that take place. This is the key feature that entertains the audience. The f...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
Song Title DJ Mayson - So Much Fun Props  For my music video the main story will start at home. Then, once the music starts to play, the setting will transition throughout the rest of the video. During the time of the home scene I plan to use a lot of common props such as, a remote control, Bookbag, TV, Couch, Door, and a lot of other home items found around the house. Costumes In the video, costumes will consist of casual clothes. There is nothing specific for the actors to wear besides being fully dressed in casual clothing that's not inappropriate. One special scene may require a wrestling mask, but, as of right now I'm still planning out the storyboard which could effect costumes. Schedule On 11/13/20, I wrote and posted my intro blog while expressing somewhat of an idea for my music video On 11/17/20, I researched conventions in popular music videos (specifically upbeat genres) On 11/17/20, My props, costumes, song, setting, and backup plan were established On 11/20/20,...

Intro Blog: Introduction to Music Video Project

Image
Individual  For this project I decided to work by myself. In our current condition as the coronavirus pandemic continues, I believe it will be a lot easier to work alone at my own pace. This way I won't have to rely on others to get their part of the work done. I'm very confident in my creativity to produce a well throughout and entertaining music video. I plan to use actors outside of Aice Media Studies . This means my closest family or friends are likely to be apart of my video when we get to recording. If things were different and school went back to the way things were last year I would've considered working in a group. However, Communication and organization will likely be difficult to control since we'll have to take in to account safety guidelines for covid protection. Not to mention, some kids are in school while others are learning from home. Song    For my music video I chose to use the song  "So Much Fun"  by DJ Mayson . To best describe this song ...

Creative Critical Reflection Blog

My commercial circles around athletic sports teams. conventions such as team logo, team outfit, and recent achievements were all incorporated into my commercial. These key elements help show the audience a sense of professionalism and the status of Fort Lauderdale's track team. Most NFL or NBA commercials show athletes in action while displaying the team logo, jersey number, and team atmosphere. Moreover, unlike professional sports receiving praise year round, not many people acknowledge high school sports or the growth of their athletes. Rarely any high school sports team is advertised and given the credit they deserved. Thus, if college sports teams can make commercials to recruit young athletes why not high school.         My commercial was designed to give the audience motivation to grind just as hard as the athletes do in the video. For example, in the scene where the actors falls due to exhaustion, the teammate picks him back u...

Commercial blog: FLHS track team

Image
This commercial has to be one of the most exciting projects that I've worked on so far. Being able to represent my track team and all the work we put in feels me with pride. I appreciate my friends/teammates for taking up roles in my commercial. From what they told me, they enjoyed being apart of this project because of the cool storyboard that played out. Between planning out this commercial and editing the final product, my skills in content making feels more refined than ever before. Honestly, I didn't know how creative I could be when imagining the commercial set-up. What helped me get through all of this was the use of proper conventions such as a track setting with equipment, outfits, and achievements. If I could change anything, it would've been to play more roles in my commercial. But sadly, I had to make sure each scene was shot to my liking. As far as duration goes, I was able to trim down the commercial to about 35 seconds, even if the goal was 30. Making...

Editing Blog: Music and Duration

Image
Personally, the editing process was quite easy for me, considering I have experience making content before. This process took me about 3-4 hours to finalize. I wanted my commercial to look as professional as possible. the first step was to dump all the scenes into the editing software chronologically. The transfer was smooth without any errors. I chose iMovie as my source for editing. After all the scenes were set-up properly, I picked out the best transitions for each shot. this was important because the wrong transition could make the commercial basic or less consistent. Next, I edited the background music into the commercial to give the storyboard the signature theme. The music helps fill the atmosphere with motivation as it directly corresponds with the storyboard. Lastly, most of my time was spent on the duration of the commercial. However, changing the duration affects the music queues as well. So far, I've settled with 38 seconds because if I pushed the commercial any lower ...

Filming Blog: FLHS Track & Carter park

On October 30th, I filmed my commercial with the hand-picked group of actors from my track team. At the start of filming, one of my athletes was late for shooting. In order to counter this delay of footage, I went ahead and shot all the scenes that did not require them. Moreover, I replaced the shot of an athlete wearing medals with holding trophies because I wanted to display team achievements rather than individual ones. Another slight change that was made while filming involved costumes. because there were not enough jersey's for every actor, one person wore a cross country shirt to keep the theme of running consistent. Each scene required at least 3-4 takes for variety. The most common difference between takes was the actor's movement and angle. After reviewing the footage taken, my commercial would've gone past the time limit of 30 seconds. Thus, I removed the over the shoulder shot of an actor starting a stopwatch for the runners. I did intend to add a shot of the ac...
