Creative Critical Reflection Blog

  1.          My commercial circles around athletic sports teams. conventions such as team logo, team outfit, and recent achievements were all incorporated into my commercial. These key elements help show the audience a sense of professionalism and the status of Fort Lauderdale's track team. Most NFL or NBA commercials show athletes in action while displaying the team logo, jersey number, and team atmosphere. Moreover, unlike professional sports receiving praise year round, not many people acknowledge high school sports or the growth of their athletes. Rarely any high school sports team is advertised and given the credit they deserved. Thus, if college sports teams can make commercials to recruit young athletes why not high school.
  2.         My commercial was designed to give the audience motivation to grind just as hard as the athletes do in the video. For example, in the scene where the actors falls due to exhaustion, the teammate picks him back up as a sign of respect towards his dedication. This form of pathos pierces into the lives of the audience to never give up, and when you fall get up. This can pertain to any activity, whether it's correlated to fitness or not. To continue, this product would be broadcast across television during a commercial break, however, it will predominately reside on channels involving sports such as ESPN.
  3.        In this project I had to expand my use of editing features in order for my commercial to run smoothly. The slow motion scenes in the beginning of the commercial fit well with the background music playing, so timing the music queues was an important experience for me. Also, adding the school motto and slogan at the end of the scene was relatively easy with the help of iMovie's editing software. But what was really exciting to try out were camera movements such as the pan and tilt in the commercial. I had to keep my movement precise and smooth while filming those scenes, so, that took a lot of takes.
  4.        While filming my project, I used the camera on my iPhone 6s to take all the shots. Once recording was done, I took all my footage and dumped it into my editing software iMovie. This system allowed me to add all the transitions between scenes, the school motto and logo, and background music throughout the commercial. When I finally finished editing, the commercial was uploaded to YouTube with ease.
