Planning for Final Task: Location, Participants, Health, Schedule

Image
Schedule   3/2/2021 OR 3/4/2021 Depending on circumstances that may follow after today, I will began filming either on Tuesday or Thursday of this week. This session will include shots of scene 1,2,3,4 and 5. My goal is to cover all the shots that take place inside since it's likely to be too dark outside by the time recording starts. Film & editing blog due March 4th 3/8/2021, 3/9/2021, and 3/11/2021 Because I will be occupied during the weekend, filming will resume next week starting Monday. I placed and extra date to film in the same week to make-up the time loss over the weekend. On these dates i will cover the next 5 scenes that will take place outside. These scenes will require a lot of light so the sun must be out at its best. Thus, filming will start at 3 until all good lighting is gone. Film & editing blog due March 8th and 11th 3/14/2021 March 14 falls on a Sunday which is perfect to start filming early. I will cover at least 8 scenes or more with the intent...

Planning for final task: Storyboard

Image
For my opening sequence, the story will be about a young boy who wakes up at the start of the day and gets ready to head out the door. However once they leave their home, they stumble on their first problem of the day. Planning a storyboard is very important for this project because it helps organize what's needed to be filmed. This deters any random improv that isn't consistent with the story.

Title Research: Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Image
artofthetitles.com 1) In the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 opening scene all of  the main actors of the film are displayed first as chaos plays out. soon after the actors are mentioned, the executive producer, director, writers, and others who worked on the film are displayed throughout the scene. 2&3) We see all the guardians from the previous movie face off against an intergalactic monster to start off the movie. this displays that intense level of action the audience has been waiting for since the first release of guardians of the galaxy. weapons, explosions, and swords are all being used to the creature down but, the guardians are still getting handled in the process. this makes it all the more funny in the process. 4)      Baby Groot, mischievous and distracted in his own world, dances to music from Star-Lord’s second mixtape while the Guardians throw down in the background, out of focus. The focus on Groot instead of the main action is the first comedic thrust ...

Title Research: Shazam

Image
artofthetitle.com 1) During the open sequence of the movie it mentions people who worked on the movie. this segment included actors, artist, and directors of the film. 2&3) A lot of conflict and action takes place throughout the opening scene. Although it is drawn out, the main character can be seen fighting tons of bad guys who pose as a major threat. Guns, explosions, and viscous werewolves all symbolize how action packed the movie sets out to be. Moreover, the opening scene shifts to wacky scenarios such as stealing the Batmobile, arm wrestling superman, and beating flash in a foot race. this further pushes the comedy elements the movie will provide and tells the audience threat the main character should not be taken to seriously. 4) As stated the audience can tell the movie will be about action because of all the bad guys the main character fight s in the opening scene. regardless of whether they're canon or not, each threat Shazam faces result in an a lot out battle as he...

Title Research: Suicide Squad

Image
artofthetitle.com 1) Suicide Squad's title scene matches the characters ability's in a circular motion and displays the names of the actors who play said character in the film. the directors, writers and artist are also displayed later on in the title sequence of the movie. 2&3) Guns, explosives, knives and anything else directly correlated to violence are displayed repetitively throughout the title sequence. this hints at the idea of how violent this film will be towards the audience. nothing but common items associated with hurting others is thrown into the face of the audience. However, it's funny to see joker's signature laugh graffiti across he's character ring any other characters with peculiar abilities like Harley Quinn's hammer. 4) The film genre will clearly consist of action since the title sequence includes tons of weaponry and explosions. although no actual fighting takes place, we get a glimpse at each characters ability or their weapon of cho...

Title Research: Deadpool

Image
artofthetitle.com 1) Apart from twentieth century fox producing the movie under their franchise, Deadpool is full of jokes from the jump as no actual people are mention in the title sequence. for example, rather than using the director's actual name, the mention that comes up is only "An Overpaid Tool." Moreover, the film then goes on to say written by "The Real Heroes Here." 2&3) Throughout the opening scene time is frozen as the camera covers the every inch of the event that is taking place. It mainly prioritizes the gruesome action that has transpired which the audience assumes why the car is in a barrel roll motion mid-air. This further pushes the element of action and comedy that is about to take place. Deadpool leaves his victims in an awkward state for the audience to laugh at. He's also done a lot of damage in the process of he's attack.  4)  The audience can properly assume that Deadpool is both action and comedy from the title sequence bas...

Title Research: Watch the Titles Websites

Image
Watchthetitiles.com gives me open ideas on how I want my opening scene to look. It provides examples of multiple genres and their opening scenes. Because I want to combine the elements of  comedy and action, I can browse multiple examples of the two. More importantly, I can study the different conventions to add within my project. I don't want to confuse the audience on what my genre is so I'm looking at ways to keep it simple. My main focus when looking at the different opening examples is to note any similar Camera movements, edits, and sounds that are used for a specific genre. However, I did learn that opening scenes contain some hints as to what the plot of the film be about. The audience wont recognize it at first until the watch the film for the first time. But, once they go back and view the opening scene, they can tell that the director produced with some elements of the movie in mind.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
My reason for looking at the art of the title site is because I want to develop an understanding on how a title design and title sequence is established. I want to know how the creators came up with their ideas in producing one. viewing the website helps give me an idea on how to create my own title design and sequence. What I saw from the art of the title site was a variety of opening scenes. As I observed the title sequences, I took notice of how each one included names of people who worked on the film. Through the title sequences, the individuality of the creator is shown. For example, the title sequence can be based off on the creator’s personality, interests, creativity. etc. In some instances, the creator will use a title sequence to display a message or tell a story to the audience. As I was researching the site, I learned that title sequences are basically an introduction to the movie. They help engage the audience by implying what is about to start in...

Genre Research: Bad Boys for Life

Image
The "Bad Boys" franchise has been one of the most consistent mix of action and comedy films for over 17 years. Not only does the movie feature comedian Martin Lawrence with a main role, it also includes entertainer and rapper, Will Smith who works alongside Martin Lawrence. Both men are extremely funny and entertaining to watch as they embark on another case together. Regardless of the actors background's, the director still conveys a story full of action and adventure. The only plus side is incorporating comedy into the film wouldn't be a hassle since they actors stared are already familiarized with the genre.      My favorite element about bad boys is that the director uses people that have experience being in a comedy movie before or work under the profession as a comedian. this makes it easier to include multiple elements of comedy as the film goes on.      Bad boys for life lacked edits typically found in comedic movies. This includ...

Genre Research: Kingsman The Secret Service

Image
Kingsman The Secret Service is about an ordinary guy who finds himself becoming a top secret spy after the death of his father. This movie contained both action and comedy. the main character humors the audience as he goes through the training of becoming a Kingsman. a lot of flops and fails occur in the process, most of which were ironic circumstances. But as I stated, the film is another example of an action comedy genre.  I liked the elements of comedy that Kingsman Secret Service used to entertain the audience. For my opening scene, I plan to use at least three different elements along side some conventions that correlate to action. Irony, Slapstick, and Farce are all the elements I want to incorporate into my film and the Kingsman displays examples of these terms throughout the movie. Apart from the elements that the movie does include, Kingsman Secret Service doesn't capture a lot of conventions notable for comedy. There aren't any typical sounds or edits ...

Genre Research: Deadpool

Image
As it stands "Deadpool" is a completely goofy superhero that saves the lives of those around him. All Superhero movies showcase a lot of action in the form of fight scenes, or all out carnage. However, Deadpool captures something unique in this action film. The director uses a variety of elements from comedy that matches the personality of the main character. Not to mention those around. Deadpool is full of satire, dark humor, irony, and so much more. Both genres of action and comedy are intertwined so well that the audience can debate on either one as the main category. In a sense, I hope to grasp that element from the movie " Deadpool," into my opening film. I want the audience to understand that my project will not only be action packed but, quite humorous at the same time.       Although the action itself was spectacular, the amount of jokes made in the movie was by far my favorite part. Deadpool takes no situation too serious. Instead Deadp...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
For my opening scene, I'm choosing to film an action-comedy genre. This way I can combine both of my favorite genres for the final project. Doing just a comedy film will prove to be difficult since the jokes will have to be funny but appropriate at the same time. Thus, when I refer to the guidelines that I must follow for my final project, the best way to keep it simple and less confusing for the audience would be to incorporate light bits of humor. that way it's not the main focus of the movie. for example the movie  "21 Jump Street"  . Although some people can argue that the film was produced as an action movie, the director uses light humor throughout the film which combines the two genres. That effect on the audience is my goal for this project. Another example would be "Kingsman The Secret Service," this movie combines the genres of action and comedy a whole lot better. from huge explosions caused by state of the art spy gear to clumsy trips down a fli...

Genre Research: Action & Horror

Image
ACTION Extreme wide shot Full shot Medium shot close-up Establishing shot Action match  Tilt  Pan Eyeline match Non-diegetic & diegetic  Cutaways Fade In-Out Avengers Infinity war Star Wars The Force Awakens Fast and Furious 7 I love how exciting the elements are in action genres. these films include a variety of special effects that leaves the audience in amazement. From laser swords to massive explosions that look so real, special effects truly carry all action films. Action films can be quite intense for certain audiences. Its best young kids aren't exposed to such violence at a young age. typically most action films are rated R so young kids are restricted to not watch these films without supervision. HORROR  I admire that the key ingredient in horror fiction is its ability to provoke fear or terror in the audience, usually via something demonic. There should be a sense of dread, unease, anxiety, or foreboding. Elements of horror that I don't find appea...

Genre Research: Comedy

For my genre project I chose to cover comedy. Comedy so happens to be my favorite genre of films. In the PowerPoint I cover common conventions that are correlated with comedy movies and tv shows. this consisted of CAMS, Mis-en-scene, and CLAMPS. For example, laugh tracks are a common sound tool editors use so that the audience can recognize when a joke is being made. it's a Non-diegetic sound that doesn't come from any source found in the actual scene. Moreover, my genre project breaks down the different elements of comedy. This includes Dark humor, Satire, Irony, etc. typically, most comedies consist of people of comedians who are familiar with that kind of entertainment. Kevin Hart, Dave Chapelle, and Adam Sandler are all famous people tied to comedy as a genre.

My Pitch

Image
Pitch 1      For my first pitch, I want to film an action-comedy about a guy who wants the best out of life, so he goes back in time to choose the best decisions. However, each choice can lead to very wacky events. As it stands pitch 1 might prove to be a lot more difficult to film than pitch 2. Although I would love to make a action-comedy movie, I don't know if I can grasp that aspect in a 2 minute opening of the film. honestly, it would probably be more fun to film but, I rather choose the simpler option for me. Pitch 2      For my second pitch, the film is about a world of chaos. Anyone can be challenged in a fight to the death but, one person chooses to fight in order to end the circle of violence. Pitch 2 just might be the option I choose to film because of its simplicity. It's also a very interesting idea to me since I favor fighting scenes from media topics like anime. With what I already know about fight scenes, it will be easier to...

Intro Blog: Introduction to opening film

Image
Individual Hello, my name is Basil Saunders and for this project I decided to work by myself. In our current condition as the coronavirus pandemic continues, I believe it will be a lot easier to work alone at my own pace. This way I won't have to rely on others to get their part of the work done. I'm very confident in my creativity to produce a well thought out opening scene. I plan to use actors who don't take Aice Media Studies. This means my closest friends are likely to be apart of my film once recording starts. If things were different and school went back to the way things were last year I would've considered working in a group. However, Communication and organization will likely be difficult to control since we'll have to take in to account safety guidelines for covid protection. Not to mention, some kids are in school while others are learning from home. Opening film genre For the genre of my film, I'm choosing to go with action. this decision was made...
