Creative Critical Reflection Blog: Music Video

Image
Like other music videos, my project gives credit to the artist and the song that is currently featured. Usually, this information is presented either before or after the music video. Rather than following the typical use of dancing and singing, I chose to develop my video similar to Katy Perry's hit song "Last Friday Night."  This music video inspired me to make my project comedic in relation to the song I chose. Moreover, there are very few music videos that cover music without lyrics. I'm quiet fond of instrumentals or groovy beats that influence me to get down. However, one thing that I noticed in the music industry is that a lot of these songs don't come with a visual music video. how else will the viewer know the artist true tone behind their music. Thus, I suggest more creators of beats and instrumentals should have the opportunity to express their music further through visualization. Personally, my project engages with the audience with a sense of wacky fun...

Music Video Blog

First and for most, let me start off by saying how much I enjoyed working on this video. I was surprised about the outcome of all this since I didn't know how to go about this project at first. In the beginning, I struggled to form a proper story that goes along with the song I selected. At times I contemplated about changing the song to make a more easier story. However, soon enough I resented the idea of giving up on the song, " So Much Fun," because deep down I knew it can be done. This belief alone carried me through all my ideas and attempts for a creative story. As a result, my story soon came to me. My goal was to create a music video that would entertain the audience through comedy. Thus, a wacky adventure was be perfect as the plot.  More specifically, my story correlates with the title of the song because the main character experiences a bizarre dream that's enjoyable for the audience. In short summary, the music video consist of a young boy coming home t...

Editing Blog: 1 minute Dilemma

Image
Ever since I finished filming, I couldn't wait to start editing my music video. Many ideas ran across my mind about how I should go about this process. Most of my focus was towards what edits can I possibly incorporate into my project that would make it entertaining. This consisted of transitions, filters, effects, and more. To start off, my first move was to position each scene in order to see what it would look like at it's base form. Upon further review I noticed that the video was about a minute and 25 seconds long. In all honesty, I didn't expect it to go that far beyond the time limit, but never the less, I had to fix this problem immediately before I could include anything else. So, after rewatching my video over and over again, I made small cuts throughout each scene. Majority of these cuts were shots that weren't meant to be included. However, other smaller shots were discarded from the project because they made the scene unnecessarily long. Soon enough, I bro...

Filming Blog: Part 2

Image
On December 3rd, I successfully coordinated a make-up day for filming. In part 1 of my filming blog, I talked about filming most of the introduction to my music video. However, because the sun was going down, the rest of the music video had to be postponed at a later date. This time around a lot more scenes were covered while production started earlier in the day. In order to conserve time until the other cast members arrived, I decided to record all the solo shots in advance so that the main priority would be scenes involving multiple actors. Recording took no more than 4 hours including the time spent on the previous film session. One thing I must point out is that the mask I originally intended to use for the video had to be replaced since it wasn't available on set. Also, rather than having two hostages by the pool, I shortened the scene to one hostage as a last minute change. Each scene required about 5-6 takes for the best possible shot. Although, it wasn't all that bad ...
